Speed Dating With Curriculum

When beginning homeschooling, there is what can be the daunting task of choosing your curriculum. Weather you are religious, secular, an unschooler or undetermined on your learning path, there are what seems like an overwhelming multitude of choices for you. From boxed curriculum's, to bundle packs, and even pick your own homeschooling pieces, homeschooling caters to everyone's lifestyle and learning path, that is the glory of homeschooling.

Here at Tumbleweed Homeschool, we currently use Fun Schooling Books by Thinking Tree, along with supplemental helpers to keep things fresh for LadyBug. (What kid doesn't like new books and games?!)

Fun Schooling Books are unique and fun in the way they deliver their content to homeschoolers. Each journal is geared towards an age group, and caters to their learning style and/or needs. It will cover science, math, writing, copy work and what I like most of all, a few Dyslexia Games, and logic puzzles. All you need to do is have your child pick the books they want to read about throughout the journal, and that's it! Fun Schooling Books also have math journals, spelling journals, poetry journals, nature journals, Mom/Dad Homeschool Helpers and MORE! You will not be disappointed with their range of homeschool materials.

Homeschooling shouldn't feel like a chore or a battle. It might take a while before you find your groove, and you might even have to buy and sell a few curriculum's before finding your perfect match, but it's out there, I promise! I was one of those few who thought I would never find the perfect match for our life and here I am a full time Fun Schooler!

Why Homeschooling?

Why homeschooling? So many people ask me this question when I tell them LadyBug is reading, or doing math at 4. Why not private school or charter schools? What about socialization, friends and other “life skills?” This face right here is why we homeschool LadyBug. The pure joy of learning about one of her many loves, lizards, in our own backyard anytime she wants. We’ve caught and released many types of lizards, geckos, even built them homes and fed them! Nothing like live science class at 8am! The choice to homeschool was easy for me. Growing up my mom specialized in early childhood education and ran an in home daycare, so she could be home with us before sending my siblings and I to public school. Perfectly Imperfect

My daughter is a gymnast. She spends quite a few hours in the gym trying to achieve the almost unobtainable perfection in the sport. Homeschooling is such a release from that perfection for both her and myself. I am a former gymnast and a coach, but even before that I was just a kid in public school “not quite getting it” in some areas, like math. I was made to believe that there was one way of thinking and learning, which I later found out, is totally not the case! There are infinite ways of thinking, and learning, and all of them are amazing and lead to lifelong learning paths; like Homeschooling!
